Overwhelmed By Social Media?

Overwhelmed by social media and trying to keep up.

When a new business owner is starting to market their business on social media, they can start to feel a little overwhelmed. We all know that social media is a key channel to be on, but which platform is right? Why not be on all of them? How do I reply to all the comments and reviews? With so many choices and features being rolled out on a consistent basis...how do we keep up? As you can imagine...overwhelming.

Here are some tips to follow when starting your social media channels:

1. Focus: With so many social media channels out there, focus on the channels that fit your target audience. Facebook and Twitter are always good foundations. If you're a restaurant, Yelp. If you're a fashion brand, Pinterest. Then, as you feel more comfortable, add in blogs and video on YouTube.

2. Use the right tools: I am always about finding the most efficient way to work. Having a good social media tool helps you post across multiple platforms at once. You can even schedule posts ahead of time. I'd recommend you start off with a free version of either HootSuite, Buffer or TweetDeck. Of course you could pay a small monthly fee for an enterprise solution if you need something more.

3. Get some help: As a new business owner, you're being pulled in every direction making sure the business is growing and managing administrative duties. When you get to a point that you can't focus on your marketing, being sure you are replying to comments or reviews and staying on top of developing content to post on your social channels, it's time to get help. You don't want to put yourself in a position that could potentially harm your social media results.

These are just a few tips that can help alleviate the overwhelming feeling new business owners can feel when jumping into the social media space. What other tips would you provide? Feel free to leave a comment below.
