We knew it would only be a matter of time, but it looks like the time as come! OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has officially announced plans to introduce ads to the platform. For brands, this is great news and signals a new channel with massive reach and daily engagement.

Ads will appear only in clearly labeled placements and will not influence or alter ChatGPT’s actual responses, which is an important distinction for brand safety and trust.

From what OpenAI has shared so far, the platform is being built with relevance, transparency, and privacy in mind. Ads will initially be shown only to adult users in the United States and will avoid sensitive topics like health and politics.

Paid tiers such as ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise will remain completely ad free. Users will also have visibility into why they are seeing certain ads and the ability to limit personalization, which means brands will need to focus on smart, contextual messaging rather than heavy targeting tactics.

Timing wise, OpenAI has indicated that testing will begin soon, with a broader rollout expected in early 2026. While details on ad formats, buying models, and reporting are still limited, this is a space we are actively monitoring and preparing for.

As more information becomes available, we will help you understand how and if ChatGPT advertising fits into your media mix, and how to show up in a way that feels natural, relevant, and aligned with how people actually use AI today.
